June is a month a page of blocks on paper the 16th of June a block on a page under pages of blocks on a calendar that says we will have spring though its cold and chilly and time marches on and the 16th of June arrives before I do muddy and green and unread. Every year Bloomsday arrives and I haven’t read the damned book, but this year I will crack the nut, but I don’t have to crack it alone, and neither do you. Let’s read Ulysses together, all those words strung together like a necklace of ice …

This society’s focus is poetry, and facilitates gatherings to hear and recite published and/or original works. Ideally this group will bring together people with a wide range of poetic experiences ranging from novice to well-read. At each meeting, one should bring a collection of poems to share. Additional material, such as extra copies of the poetry, may be provided to enhance the discussion. This group will first and foremost allow one to experience poetry, and secondly enhance poetic interpre …
Meet kindred book lovers in the Bergen/Rockland County area. While we occasionally read modern classics (Lolita, Catch-22), we read mostly classic works written before 1950 (check our calendar to sample our book selection). We emphasize novels and plays important within the history of literature or have some historical interest. We have friendly, topical discussions about what we enjoyed, didn't enjoy, and found interesting in our reading while making some literate friends in the process. GROUP …

Do you love literature and perhaps music and art as well--but somehow you’ve never really “got” poetry? Would you like to learn to get the joy from poems you get from other works of art without going through English Lit 101 again? If your answers are yes I can help. It started with a friend whom I met in discussion groups of Joyce’s Ulysses and Proust’s Remembrance of Things Past. He loved literature and music (he was a Jazz musician and is very knowledgeable about classical music as well). Yet, …

“The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you'll go.” ~Dr. Seuss I've tried joining a few book clubs that were genre specific (chick lit), gender specific (chicks only), and author specific (Stephen King) but as none seemed to satisfy my palate, I thought I'd try to see if there were others like me, i.e. those who can equally enjoy the likes of Jane Austen, Stephen King, Shakespeare,Neil Gaiman, Dean Koontz as well as nonfiction books (The …
